Getting started with Voxclar takes just 10 minutes, whether you're on macOS or Windows. This step-by-step guide walks you through the entire process — from downloading the app to running your first AI-assisted practice interview.

Step 1: Download and Install
Visit voxclar.com/download and download the installer for your platform. On macOS, open the .dmg file and drag Voxclar to your Applications folder. On Windows, run the .exe installer and follow the prompts.
Step 2: Grant Audio Permissions
Voxclar needs permission to capture system audio — this is how it transcribes what the interviewer says.
macOS
On first launch, macOS will prompt you to grant audio recording permission. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and ensure Voxclar is enabled. For system audio capture, you may also need to grant Screen Recording permission.
Windows
Windows WASAPI loopback capture typically doesn't require additional permissions. If you're using a corporate machine with restricted policies, you may need admin approval.
Step 3: Choose Your ASR Mode
Voxclar offers two transcription modes:
- Cloud (Deepgram) — Higher accuracy, requires internet. Best for most users. Uses your included minutes or your own API key.
- Local (faster-whisper) — Complete privacy, works offline. Requires downloading the model (1-3GB depending on size selected).
Step 4: Configure Your AI Provider
Choose which AI model generates answer suggestions:
- Claude — Best for nuanced, detailed answers
- GPT-4 — Balanced performance across question types
- DeepSeek — Fastest responses, great for technical questions
Step 5: Test with a Practice Session
- Click "Start Practice" in the Voxclar dashboard
- Ask yourself (or have a friend ask) a sample interview question
- Watch the floating caption window display the real-time transcription
- Review the AI-generated answer suggestions
Step 6: Set Up Your Interview Profile
For the best answer suggestions, provide Voxclar with context:
- Upload or paste your resume
- Add the job description for your target role
- Note any specific topics or technologies you want to emphasize
This context is used to ground AI responses in your actual experience — the suggestions will reference your real projects and achievements.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
